Charity 2026: Every Gift Has a Story; Sharing Joy at LKSA

Surabaya, September 26, 2026 – The "Charity 2026" event
was successfully organized by the English Education Student Association of the
Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. Crrying
the theme "Every Gift Has a Story", the program served as a tangible
expression of social concern and empathy, focusing on providing assistance and
support to children at the Child Social Welfare Institution (LKSA) as the
primary participants.
The event began at 8:10 AM and was
opened by the Master of Ceremonies, Siti Muflikha Dwi Lestari and Alif
Robbiatul Sariroh. It continued with welcoming remarks from the Vice President of
the English Education Student Association and the head of the organizing
committee. Centered on its theme, the event was not merely about sharing food
or snacks, but also about sharing meaningful stories. The children from the
institution proved to be resilient individuals possessing an extraordinary
spirit and enthusiasm to learn.
The first session featured a
storytelling performance by Nala and Nisa, who presented the story "The
Legend of Telaga Warna" in both English and Indonesian. The tale recounts
Princess Gilang Rukmini, who rejected a necklace given by her father and threw
it, scattering it gemstone across the ground. Her mother’s tears caused the
earth to gush forth abundant water, forming a lake that took on a colorful hues
from the scattered gemstones. The children listened intently, and at the end of
the session, the presenters summarized the story to foster a deeper
understanding.
The second session
consisted of group discussions and storytelling activities. Each group was
assigned a mentor from the committee to guide the children in selecting a
story. Afterward,
each group choose one representative to come forward and shared
their story. The participants presented a variety of topics, ranging from
personal daily anecdotes to classic fairy tales, using expressive storytelling
styles. The event continued with a crafting activity using recycled materials
led by Febby. Using plastic bottles and cardstock, the participants created
items such as pencil holders and piggy banks. They showed great enthusiasm, as
the session allowed them to express their ideas and hone their creative
potential.
Towards the end
of the event, the Vice President of the English Education Student Association expressed
appreciation to the representatives of the Child Social Welfare Institution.
The event concluded with a group photo session and the announcement of the
winning groups. Before leaving, the children received meals and books intended
to inspire and motivate them to keep persuing and growing as they dreams.
Overall, Charity 2026 successfully served as a platform to foster
togetherness, cultivate social awareness, and inspire the children. Through
interactive storytelling sessions, supportive group discussions, and upcycled
craft activities, the English Education Student Association of UIN Sunan Ampel
Surabaya encouraged the children from the Child Social Welfare Institution (LKSA)
to remain optimistic about their aspirations and futures.
